Security systems designers, integrators and installers recognize the added reliability of embedded (“potted”) video and audio switches and distribution amplifiers used by broadcast, military and aerospace industries to clean up noise, while operating in harsh environments.
Increasingly dependent on continuous video monitoring and recording, even today’s more sophisticated security surveillance systems are often plagued by reliability problems. In some ways, more complex video systems are susceptible to signal and other dependability problems simply because they are multifaceted.

A church is objecting to a CCTV camera set up to protect million-pound properties in a private road in Kent.
Sevenoaks United Reformed Church says people using its side entrance can be filmed by the Kippington Road camera.
It is particularly concerned CCTV will record clients visiting the confidential Christian Counselling Service which uses its building.
The management company which set up the CCTV camera said only the police and estate manager could view the pictures.

UPGRADED hi-tech CCTV cameras were yesterday (Tuesday) set to be switched on again in a Rubery park which has gained a dubious reputation for harbouring yobs and vandals.
The news was greeted with delight by Waseley ward Labour councillor Peter McDonald, who had been highly critical of the district council which, he claimed, had shown a lack of vision by prematurely removing the spy camera from St Chad’s park before installing new state-of-the-art replacements.
Cllr McDonald claims that the time lapse of more than a week resulted in a rise in the number of incidents of graffiti in the park where recently two girls were mugged.

A JCR motion could result in a surveillance camera being installed in the Hertford JCR due to damage last term. Thomas Lowe, JCR President, put forward the motion last Sunday stating that the camera would act as a deterrent to those individuals who damaged the JCR. Footage would be passed on to the Dean following serious misdemeanors. Hertford JCR was closed frequently last term as a result of excessive mess and damage to College property.
The subsequent cost in overtime to scouts and staff was then charged to the battles of all students. Those defending the motion argued this be avoided if individual offenders could be identified. Lowe said, “It can’t be called CCTV surveillance as there won’t be someone watching it all the time. It’s just so that if there are any incidents we can look back at the footage and see what happened. “It’s basically for the JCR as we want to save our students money.

A new kind of CCTV camera that promises less invasive surveillance is being trialled in the US.
Developed by computer scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, the CCTV camera can obscure a person’s face with an oval spot.
The so-called ‘respectful camera’ is designed for use in day-to-day surveillance and the oval spots can be removed by authorities in the event of an investigation.

A CCTV camera has been installed on an Oxford shopping parade - more than a year after it was due to go up.
Oxford City Council originally agreed to install the £12,000 camera in Atkyns Road, Wood Farm, in April 2006 after repeated problems with antisocial behaviour.
Shopkeepers said they were frustrated it had taken so long to get the camera installed, but hoped it would help to catch and deter troublemakers.
